Project helping children with homework and studies

Children receiving help with their homework and studies by Optimist Club Malta.

The voluntary organisation Optimist Club of Malta has launched a new community service in Marsa with the aim to help children who, for some reason or others, fall behind academically.

The club forms part of Optimist International, a worldwide volunteer organisation made up of more than 2,500 local centres whose members strive to make the future brighter for their community.

A few months after its foundation in 2021, the Optimist Club of Malta launched the Ikber Magħna (Grow with us) project in Vittoriosa. Two years later, the service is being extended to Marsa, where children from the locality aged 8 to 10 will receive help with their homework and studies after school hours.

Educational extra-curriculum activities will also be held, with the goal of encouraging these youngsters to flourish beyond school hours and provide them with valuable character-building experiences.

The service will be provided at The Meeting Place, a venue which provides non-government organisations (NGOs) working in the education, health and social sector with modern premises to launch projects similar to the one created by the Optimist Club of Malta.

The Ikber Magħna sessions will take place every Wednesday from 3 to 4.30pm and on Saturdays from 10am to noon.
