How often do you think about the Roman Empire?

This may sound like a strange question, but it’s one that has now been asked hundreds of thousands of times to unsuspecting boyfriends, husbands, brothers, and fathers all across the globe, spawning tonnes of reels and countless memes.

The bizarre trend has, in fact, taken over all major social media platforms around the world, with the hashtag ‘#romanempire’ being used a whopping 1.1 billion times on TikTok alone.

Basically, the trend sees women ask the men in their lives how often they think about the Roman Empire on average, and the answers have ranged from sweet to hilarious. One reply questioned why they wouldn’t think about the Roman Empire when they gave the world aqueducts and concrete, while another asked his girlfriend what she meant by the ‘Roman Empire’, going on to mistake the ancient superpower for Nicky Minaj’s Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album.

People who have boarded on the Roman Empire gravy train include some celebrities like Billy Ray Cyrus, who said he thinks about the Roman Empire 15 to 20 times max, but mostly because of its gladiators.

Of course, the trend has raised many questions, such as why do so many men think about the Roman Empire so often? This has been pondered by many huge news sites across the globe, including Forbes, the Washington Post, BuzzFeed, Reader’s Digest, CBS News, and People Magazine, which has left us amused but absolutely baffled…

We wonder, though, what are your thoughts on the trend and what is it about the Roman Empire that still has such a hold on so many men 1,500 years after its downfall?
