Are we getting a Buffy reboot?

Dolly Parton, the country singer known for hits like Jolene, I Will Always Love You, and 9 to 5, recently revealed that the 1990s cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer may yet get a reboot. Parton, now 78, was an uncredited producer of the original show.

The news of a reboot had been circulating for years, with a confirmation finally arriving in 2022. Even so, the plan was quickly shelved, and it seemed all hope was lost. That is, until a few days ago, when Parton told Business Insider that the reboot was actually ‘still in the works’.

Responding to fans’ concerns about the possibility of a new actor taking over the role of Buffy, the show’s reboot showrunner, Owusu-Breen said that while there is only one Buffy, a new Slayer is not off the cards.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which originally starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, and David Boreanaz, told the story of a young woman who was born with the power to slay vampires and demons. The show ran for seven seasons starting in March of 1997, and has since become a cult classic, as well as a favourite among academics of popular culture.
