After six and a half years at helm of British Vogue, Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful has said goodbye to readers with a cover that stars 40 of the world’s most famous and influential women.
Entitled ‘Legends Only’, the cover feature for the March 2024 issue was shot by photographer Steven Meisel in New York and styled by Enninful himself. And it certainly lives up to its name.
Among the 40 women who grace it are talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, former tennis champion Serena Williams, fashion designer and ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, models Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, and the Hadid sisters, Grammy-award-winning singer Miley Cyrus, and veteran actress Jane Fonda.
Having taken over the reigns in 2017, the cover is Enninful’s 76th and last for British Vogue. The former Editor-in-Chief, however, will certainly be remembered for his legacy at Vogue on a global level: on top of being the first black, gay man to edit the magazine, he also used his influence to push boundaries and increase diversity, which included giving a voice to activists, trans people, people living with disabilities, and actresses who were formerly considered too old to star on a Vogue cover.
In fact, in his Editor’s Letter, which has also been published on British Vogue’s website, he says that he still recalls ‘when a senior company staffer said these words to me: “Diversity equals downmarket.”’
The magazine is already on news stands in Malta and it will surely become a legacy issue for Enninful, who has managed to changed the face of British and world fashion with his work at Vogue. Thank you, Sir!
