I recently read an article about how the world seems to have regressed instead of progressed since the dawn of the internet and it was hard to disagree with the arguments being presented. In an age where we have answers to every question ever asked, many are falling prey to conspiracy theories and just general ridiculousness.
Let’s take the latest story to grip what seems to be a substantial amount of the internet: the so-called mystery of the Princess of Wales before she released a statement about the poignant reality.
So, Kensington Palace released a statement in mid-January stating that Princess Kate would be getting abdominal surgery and that it was unlikely that she would be returning to public duties until after Easter. It was also asked that her privacy be respected, which, in my world, is the very obvious thing to do. At the end of the day, this is a real person with fears and anxieties like everyone else, who maybe wouldn’t be comfortable sharing very personal private issues with the world.
However, what was apparent to me doesn’t seem to have been so to everyone else. The internet was fraught with theories about what may or may not have happened to the Princess of Wales, citing everything from infidelity to death and a coverup. Even when she released a photo on Mother’s Day, the internet went wild when they realised it had been touched up. Apparently, this further cemented that wrongdoing was at play and had nothing to do with the fact that maybe the recovering Princess preferred to maintain a modicum of privacy.
It’s honestly pitiable that things have come to this. The world has so many greater problems than this, and instead of people raising awareness about the things that really matter, they’re making invasive, unwarranted videos about things that others have already said they want to keep private. It’s so bitterly ironic to consider that so many are always banging on and on about the importance of mental health and having healthy boundaries and then going around and showing zero respect to anyone but themselves while playing the truth and transparency card.
Just because someone is in the public eye, it doesn’t mean that they owe you every single inch of themselves and just because you have a problem with that, it doesn’t mean that they have to show pony themselves to your satisfaction. It may come as a shock to some, but the world doesn’t revolve around your whims.
As sad as it sounds, perhaps if people took more interest in their actual lives, they’d have less time to comment about everyone else’s.
