Paris may still be gearing up to host the 2024 Olympics, but their influence is already being felt in the world of Parisian art, popular culture, and fashion. In fact, on the first day of Paris’s autumn/winter 2024 Couture Week, horse riding became a recurring theme at both shows and Vogue World: Paris.
The most obvious ode to horse riding was when models Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner’s entered Place Vendôme on two beautiful thoroughbreds, but there were other relevant moments. For example, the hairstyles for designer Tamara Ralph’s show were fully horse-girl themed, with long pony tails tied up with bos, neat buns covered in hats, and netting draped over faces.
These hairstyles, conjured up by hairstylist Larry King, were inspired by Parisian dressage, which is a sports in which the horse is taught to conduct precise movements based on light signals from its rider.
The trend, which will surely become a popular one this summer and autumn, is relatively easy to recreate, though it requires the wearer to follow some rules. The most important one being that horse-girl hair should always be smooth and without any flyaways – control, after all, is a big part of dressage.
