I actually enjoy both book and TV/cinema version of a work, provided they’re both good of course. So I’m not one of those puritans who will instantly shriek “the book is so much better”. That said, I do prefer to read the book first so I can enjoy the nuance and then see if the characters in my mind match the actors. Here are five adaptations I’m looking forward to.
Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz
Susan Ryeland, a former book editor, is drawn into a new murder mystery at a British hotel after the disappearance of a woman who believed the wrong person was convicted of a past crime. This gripping mystery will air as a six-part TV series in 2025.
The Power by Naomi Alderman
In this dystopian world, women develop the power to emit electric shocks, altering gender dynamics and societal structures. As governments fall and chaos ensues, the novel explores power, control, and survival. A new season of the TV series is expected in 2025.
The Broken Earth Trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
Set in a world constantly ravaged by apocalyptic seismic activity, the story follows orogenes—people who can control these destructive forces—and their struggle for survival amidst oppression. The first book, The Fifth Season, is being adapted into a film.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston
This romantic comedy revolves around the love affair between the First Son of the United States and a British prince. Their relationship sparks international media chaos and political intrigue. The sequel to the 2023 adaptation is planned for 2025.
The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin
In this hard sci-fi novel, humanity makes first contact with an alien civilisation during China’s Cultural Revolution, setting off a complex interstellar conflict. The much-anticipated Netflix adaptation is slated for 2025.
