Malta at Brics+ Fashion Summit

Adrian Mizzi speaking at Brics+ Fashion Summit

Malta made a significant mark on the global fashion stage as it participated in the prestigious BRICS+ Fashion Summit, held in October in Moscow. The summit brought together over 100 countries, featuring some of the most influential figures in the fashion industry.

BRICS, which stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, represents an economic alliance of emerging markets. The summit’s BRICS+ format expands this cooperation to include a larger network of nations, reflecting growing international influence and collaboration across multiple industries, including fashion. This year’s event saw the participation of over 100 fashion week organizers, mostly from BRICS nations, further solidifying its place as a platform for creative exchange and innovation.

Malta was represented by Adrian J. Mizzi, founder and executive producer of Malta Fashion Week. As a special guest speaker, Mizzi delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the power of cultural exchange in the fashion industry, and how hosting fashion events can position countries like Malta as unique destinations for high-value tourism. He highlighted that while these events might not attract large crowds, they draw high-spending visitors, significantly boosting the economy.

The summit was also a landmark moment for the fashion industry, witnessing the creation of the International Fashion Federation, which aims to foster collaboration between global fashion organizations.Mizzi’s involvement in the formation of this federation underscores Malta’s growing influence in international fashion circles.

As part of his participation, Mizzi was invited to attend the Moscow Fashion Week, where he explored the possibility of designer exchanges between Malta and Russia, signalling a potential new chapter in cross-cultural fashion collaborations.
