Cameron Carpenter to open Malta International Organ Festival tomorrow

Cameron Carpenter, a prominent organist, will open the 11th edition of the Malta International Organ Festival with a concert at St Paul’s Anglican Pro-Cathedral in Valletta on November 22. Carpenter, known for his technical skill and innovative approach to the organ, will perform a program featuring the works of J.S. Bach.

The Malta International Organ Festival will take place from November 22 to December 7, hosting a range of concerts featuring organists and musicians from around the world. These performances will be held in some of Malta’s most iconic churches, cathedrals, and basilicas, highlighting both the musical talent and the architectural heritage of the island.

Malta International Organ Festival program highlights

This year’s festival will feature a variety of concerts, including:

  • From Bach to Piazzolla: A concert blending the counterpoint of Bach with the tango rhythms of Piazzolla, demonstrating the versatility of the organ.
  • Christmas is Coming: A concert celebrating the festive season at the restored Onorati Oratory in the Jusuts’ Church in Valletta.
  • Trumpet Fanfare and Organ Grandeur: Featuring trumpet player Filippo Lombardi and organist Marco D’Avola in a concert showcasing their combined talents.
  • Grand Finale with Johannes Skudlik: The festival will close with a performance at Christ the King Basilica in Paola, featuring Bossi’s Organ Concerto Op. 100, Widor’s Toccata from the 5th Symphony, and Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor.
