Netflix has just dropped the trailer for the second season of Squid Game, the 2021 South Korean survival horror show that broke streaming records with over 2.8 billion hours of views since its release.
(Spoilers ensue)
The new season, which will drop on Netflix on December 26, will once again take us inside the game, in which hundreds of players play deadly games for a chance to win a huge prize.
From the trailer for the second season it’s clear we know that Player 456, who won the first round in 2021, will return to the games in the hopes of finding out who is behind them and stop them. Moreover, while some original games will make a comeback, like the piggy bank and the Red Light, Green Light game, there will be quite a few new challenges for the contestants.
When announcing the second season, Netflix also released its description, which reads: ‘Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organisation proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.’
A total Boxing Day treat, Squid Game season two, which is once again directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk and stars Lee Jung-jae, is expected to be as captivating and brutal as the original. Plus, the director has already confirmed that we can expect a season three at some point in the future.
