Classical music enthusiasts are invited to an enchanting evening of classical melodies at the upcoming Epiphany Recital, which is being organised by Friends of the Manoel in a special collaboration with Opera Nova Project, founded by Denise Mulholland and Gillian Zammit. The concert will take place on January 6 at 6pm at St Augustine Church in Valletta.
The performance will feature soprano Gabrielle Portelli and tenor Stanley Joe Portelli accompanied by Maria Elena Farrugi. Highlights from the programme include G.F. Handel’s stirring Recitative: Comfort ye and Air: Every Valley as well as Rejoice Greatly from The Messiah.
Audiences will also be treated to Gounod’s timeless Ave Maria, Mozart’s Laudate Dominum from Vesperae solemnes de confessore, and Schubert’s gentle Wiegenlied.
The programme continues with Bach’s meditative Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring and the evocative Quia Respexit from his Magnificat in D Major. Malotte’s heartfelt The Lord’s Prayer and C. Gounod’s moving O Divin Rédempteur will also feature, culminating in jubilant renditions of Wesley’s Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Adam’s O Holy Night.
Drinks will be hosted within the historic monastery right after. Reservations can be made directly with Friends of the Manoel – a E10 donation will be appreciated.
