Fans of Robert Eggers, which have (rightfully and quite literally) quadrupled since the release of his highly-acclaimed remake of Nosferatu, will undoubtedly be delighted to know that the director is already working on his upcoming film.

Insiders who have spoken to numerous news sites have reported that Eggers’ next feature film will be set in 13th-century England and tackle a new legendary creature of the horror genre, the werewolf.

The screenplay, which was written by Eggers along with Sjón, marked their second collaboration since the breathtaking Viking film, The Northman. Typical to Eggers’ filmmaking techniques, the dialogue in his script is said to be ‘true’ to the time period, and may see the characters speak in Old English. In fact, the title of the film is expected to be Werwulf, which comes from Old English.

So far, very little else is known about the project other than that it will be in colour (Eggers like shooting in black and white, sometimes), financed by Focus Features, and out in cinemas on or around Christmas Day 2026.
Needless to say, with each film Eggers releases, his status as one of the best horror filmmakers of our time continues to grow, so Werwulf is sure to make headlines, especially given the popularity of Nosferatu. With that in mind, stay tuned, as we’ll be sure to bring you more news about this project just as soon as we receive it!
