The China Cultural Centre in Malta, in collaboration with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, is once again inviting young people aged 10 to 18 to participate in the Junior Cultural Ambassador Competition.
The event provides an exciting opportunity for young people to showcase their talents while engaging with Chinese culture.
The selected Junior Cultural Ambassador will receive certificates, prizes and the chance to travel to China for an exchange programme, with local accommodation and transportation provided by the organisers.
This year’s theme is ‘My Favourite Chinese Food’. To participate, applicants must create a video of four minutes maximum, introducing themselves and discussing their favourite Chinese dish. The video should highlight the dish’s cultural significance, history and preparation techniques.
Participants may also compare the chosen Chinese food with Maltese dishes. Using the Chinese language in the video would be a plus.
Previous local Junior Cultural Ambassadors have shared their experiences while urging other young participants to give the competition a try.
Amelie Calleja, the 2021 ambassador, had prepared a presentation highlighting the similarities between Malta and China. She also used her writing skills to discuss the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, drawing on her studies of the Chinese language.
Mattia Dalcielo, the 2022 ambassador, showcased traditional Chinese kung fu as part of his entry, while Thiago J. Said, the 2023 ambassador, talked about his dream cities in China and played the piano in his submission.
All three winners described the competition, their trips to China to receive awards and their participation in Chinese cultural programmes as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In China, they had the chance to meet Junior Cultural Ambassadors from around the world, immerse themselves in a rich cultural experience, build lasting friendships and create unforgettable memories.
The deadline for submissions is March 31. For more information and full competition rules, visit the China Cultural Centre’s Facebook page or send an inquiry to events2024ccc@gmail.com. Applicants must submit their video to the same e-mail address.
