Twenty years ago, patients from Malta and Gozo, who had to travel to England for medical treatment, faced the burden of finding and paying for their own accommodation.
For families already grappling with illness, this was a heavy load to bear. But Puttinu Cares recognised the need and stepped in. And it had a bigger dream: to invest in new accommodation in Central London.
This dream has taken years to realise. For seven years, the Puttinu Cares team searched for a freehold property, ensuring that it would always remain in the hands of the Maltese. It located a building 10 minutes away from Great Ormond Street Hospital, near Russell Square, in Central London.
Puttinu invested in it and gained permission to build an extra floor – bringing the total to 29 apartments ready to offer free accommodation to patients and their families.
Now, they are up and running, and the Puttinu Cares team has extended its gratitude to the Maltese and Gozitans for standing by them.
This Easter, they will continue to offer hope and dignity to those who need it most, again with the public’s support and generosity during its Good Friday live broadcast on all local TV stations.
