Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum is organising a week-long series of events in celebration of International Museum Day, which falls on May 18.

The initiative, which this year carries the theme ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities’, aims to raise awareness of the evolving role of museums, as spaces for learning, reflection and dialogue, and to highlight that people’s responsibilities extend far beyond preservation.

The Mdina museum is taking inspiration from Olof Gollcher’s passion for art and culture, two important factors that connect people and communities.

In the run-up to the main event, from May 13 to 17, the museum is holding a special tour titled ‘From Observation to Illustration’.

Visitors will explore the museum’s unique architecture, detailed patterns and rich textures found within the collection and then have the opportunity to attend a drawing session.

Limited places are available for the drawing sessions on the following dates and times: May 13, from 1.30 to 3.30pm; May 14 from 10am to noon; May 15 from 1.30 to 3.30pm; May 16 from 10am to noon and May 17 from 1.30 to 3.30pm.

Artists need to bring their own materials, and are kindly requested to use dry media only, such as pencils, pastels, charcoal, pens, markers, or digital tools. Water or wet paints should be avoided. Seating will be available in designated areas throughout the museum.

For prices and bookings, e-mail bookings@palazzofalson.com. Group rates are also available.

‘Sketching the Museum’

‍On May 18, there will be an exclusive guided tour from 2 to 4pm, during which one will be able to sketch the museum’s various collections in the palazzo’s courtyard while enjoying a glass of prosecco.

Everyone is welcome and no prior experience is needed.

Tickets are non-refundable. Due to limited space, pre-booking is essential. Bookings and payments are to be made by not later than May 16 at 2pm by sending an e-mail to bookings@palazzofalson.com.

Materials for ‘Sketching the Museum’ will be provided and in case of inclement weather, the sketching session will take place in the refectory.

Participants are encouraged to share their artwork on social media by tagging @palazzo.falson or by using #palazzofalson and #InternationalMuseumDay #IMD2025.

Visit the museum’s social media pages on Facebook and Instagram for more information.
