Chewing Productions is staging a new immersive performance in August that challenges the boundaries of local theatre.
Taking place at the popular San Ġwann nightclub Liquid, Safe Haven brings together over a dozen young local artists across music, video, dance, poetry and theatre to create an evening that is part- performance and part party.
Set against the backdrop of a fictional corporate event, Safe Haven explores themes of burnout, purpose, overdevelopment and our disconnection from nature, and the tension between public and private selves in our contemporary lives.
Audiences encounter the performance not from fixed seats but as active participants moving through the venue − witnessing the unraveling of two office workers on the edge of transformation.

The project is part of Chewing Productions’ ongoing commitment to developing new audiences through innovative, experiential formats exploring contemporary themes and realities.
Performed in both English and Maltese, Safe Haven also invites attendees to arrive dressed in office attire, blurring the lines between performer and spectator and reimagining the club as a space for collective artistic encounter.
With a creative team composed of emerging and established artists − including composer Aleandro Spiteri Monsigneur, theatre-maker Alex Weenink, film-maker Chelsea Muscat, techno DJ Chouhal, dancers Kayley Jo Vella and Luke Brincat, actors Kaylie Magri and Miguel Formosa, and writer Sarah Zammit Munro − Safe Haven exemplifies a collaborative model that draws from multiple disciplines and practices in a bid to engage audiences from different backgrounds.
Founded in 2022, as a network of local artists, Chewing Productions has established itself as a platform for experimental performance-making rooted in 21st-century experiences.
Safe Haven is supported by Arts Council Malta through the Artistic Research & Development Scheme.
