An exclusive artist development programme designed to nurture emerging singer-songwriters through intensive mentorship, professional studio experience and a live performance showcase has been launched.

Organised by Scrolls Productions in collaboration with the Manoel Theatre, Isabella Turso, CPM Music Institute (Milan) and Cornerhouse Studios, The Write Note will take place from September 3 to 7 at the Manoel in Valletta and Cornerhouse Studios in Lija.

Billed under the tagline ‘Your Music. Your Voice. Your Moment, the initiative gives a select group of artists the chance to receive world-class training in songwriting, stagecraft and recording, culminating in a live concert at the Manoel Theatre.

“These mentors have guided some of Italy’s leading performers. Their knowledge and experience offer emerging artists the priceless insight they need at the start of their journey” Stefania Grech Vella, artistic director of Scrolls Productions, said.

A world-class mentoring team

Participants will work closely with three internationally acclaimed professionals. Andrea Rodini, known for his work on X-Factor Italia and The Voice of Italy, has coached top artists including Mahmood, Arisa and Noemi.

Tommaso Ferrarese, head of singing at Milan’s CPM Music Institute, brings his expertise from Area San Remo and touring with Cece Rogers, while pianist and composer Isabella Turso, who is currently based in Malta, is celebrated for her collaborations with cellist Tina Guo, rapper Dargen D’Amico and Emmy-nominated poet IN-Q.

Selective entry

Admission into the programme will be selective, based on a short artist biography, a demo or sample of original work (finished or in-progress), and a statement of motivation. Final selection will be made by the Italian tutors, ensuring participants receive focused, high-level mentorship.

Throughout the five-day programme, artists will engage in songwriting mentorship, performance coaching, and collaboration with Maltese musicians Ryan Paul Abela, Luke Grech, Melchior Busuttil and John Cutajar for the development of their song, leading to a live showcase (with band) on the Manaoel stage.

An international opportunity

One standout participant, chosen by a panel of judges during the showcase, will be awarded a career-boosting prize: a performance at the CPM Music Institute’s theatre in Milan during Crea Musica Open Week, with flights for two included.

The winner will also secure an acoustic pre-show performance at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta on November 29, as part of Rockwired ’25.
