Revamp MT is bringing the hit musical School of Rock to the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta next month.
Based on the Paramount film written by Mike White and starring Jack Black, the Tony-nominated musical adaptation features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, a book by Julian Fellowes and lyrics by Glenn Slater.
Like the movie, the musical follows wannabe rock star Dewey Finn as he cons his way into a teaching job at a prestigious prep school.
Trading textbooks for electric guitars, Dewey inspires his students to form a rock band and compete in the ‘Battle of the Bands’ – all while discovering that they have just as much to teach him about friendship, courage and staying true to oneself.
“School of Rock is a show of pure joy. It’s a celebration of music, friendship and finding your voice, and it lifts you up from the first note”
Revamp MT’s production brings together a top cast led by James Ryder as the irrepressible Finn, alongside Natassja Chapman as headteacher Rosalie Mullins, Alessio Buhagiar as Ned Schneebly, Bertha Farrugia as Patty Di Marco and Rachel Grech as Ms Sheinkopf.
The classroom will come to life with a talented ensemble of young performers – including Leah Grech and Michaela Caruana, sharing the role of Summer Hathaway – playing their own instruments live on stage.
Musical theatre veteran Dorothy Bezzina directs, alongside musical director Edward Mifsud, production manager Karl Borg and choreographer Samaria Bezzina. Sergio Costa and Mohamed Ali ‘Dali’ Aguerbi complete the line-up with sound and lighting design.
“School of Rock is a show of pure joy. It’s a celebration of music, friendship and finding your voice, and it lifts you up from the first note,” Bezzina said.
“I’m so grateful to be working with such a diverse and talented cast, children and adults alike, who filled the room with their beautiful harmonies from day one.
“This production is giving us the chance to mentor young performers and help them grow in confidence, not just as triple threats, but as actor-musicians too. We’re so excited to share their talent and energy with audiences in Malta this October.”
The Revamp MT production of School of Rock – The Musical will run for one weekend only, with both matinée and evening performances between October 10 and 12 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta. Recommended for audiences aged six and over, with mild parental discretion advised.
This production was made possible by arrangement with The Really Useful Group Ltd. More information and tickets are available online at showshappening.com.
