Music, dance spectacle inspired by Dickens characters to be staged in October

The event's poster

In its mission to promote culture in a professional, accessible and engaging manner, the Medina Foundation for Music is presenting What the Dickens – The Mysterious Books, a multidisciplinary performance featuring music, acting and dance, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, on October 18 and 19.

From the mist of time and imagination, the show invites the audience on a breathtaking journey through some of the greatest stories ever told by British author Charles Dickens.

A boy named Oliver dares to ask for more… A cold-hearted Scrooge is haunted by the shadows of his soul… A young woman’s dreams are shattered in the glow of a wedding dress… All under the watchful eye of Inspector Bucket, justice creeping ever closer.

Through dazzling dance, thrilling illusion and heart-pounding music, the stage becomes a living book, its characters colliding in a spectacular fusion of drama, romance and redemption. Ghosts fly, secrets unfold and a circus comes to life before your very eyes… Until the final page turns, and every story finds its voice.

The production features original music by Mark Agius, who will lead the orchestra, while Louie Noir is producing the show. Four local dance schools are participating.

The St Paul’s Metropolitan Orchestra, as the performing body of the Medina Foundation for Music, is Malta’s only full-scale independent symphonic orchestra. It collaborates with the Mediterranean Conference Centre, as well as other local organisations including choirs, dance companies, rock bands, institutions supporting persons with disabilities, and distinguished guest artists.
