Gallery 23 in Balzan is hosting a group exhibition, bringing together the works of three accomplished local artists: Henry Borg Barthet, Jeni Caruana and Adrian Camilleri.
Through a curated selection of oil paintings and watercolours, Land and Sea explores the timeless interplay between earth and ocean, from serene horizons and reflective shorelines to brooding skies and the drama of storm-tossed waves.
The artists’ diverse interpretations capture the shifting moods of nature with remarkable depth and emotion. Together, these artists offer a compelling visual narrative of the land and sea that surround us , familiar yet endlessly changing.
Caruana explores the raw beauty of rugged cliffs and ancient towers, evoking the enduring relationship between nature and the traces of human history. These dramatic landscapes reflect both the isolation and resilience of coastal places. Her landscapes are rich with the colours of weathered stone, wild flora and sunlit terrain. Her paintings convey both energy and sensitivity, creating works that feel grounded, expressive and quietly alive.
Camilleri focuses on serene shorelines and reflective waters, offering a quieter, more contemplative view of the coast. Through soft washes and delicate detail, his work invites viewers into peaceful moments of connection with nature. He also explores the stormy drama of open waters capturing the sea’s raw energy.
Borg Barthet captures the spirit of nautical life with a mastery that feels both immediate and timeless. His dynamic seascapes and sailing scenes pulse with movement, light and the drama of wind against water. His bold, expressive brushwork conveys the exhilaration and unpredictability of life at sea, immersing viewers in the energy of the elements where movement, weather and craftsmanship converge.
Each artist brings their individual style and technique to the fore, yet together they create a harmonious dialogue that invites viewers to experience the familiar beauty of our surroundings through a fresh lens.
