Dwal Ġodda is presenting a new adaptation of Francis Ebejer’s Menz, under the direction of Martha-Marie Gauci.
Written in 1967 and premiered at the Manoel Theatre that same year, Menz was restaged at the same theatre in 1991 and performed internationally in Tokyo, Spain and Venice.
The play confronts existential questions that remain strikingly relevant: how individuals negotiate personal freedom within a society that both defines and confines them.
With its experimental form and psychological depth, the play recalls the daring spirit of Ionesco and Beckett, yet retains a distinctly Maltese voice.
Audiences should expect not only a powerful theatrical experience but also a rare opportunity to rediscover one of Malta’s most visionary playwrights in dialogue with the great masters of 20th-century theatre.
This production also brings to a close a series of commemorative events organised by various entities in Malta to mark the centenary of the late playwright (1925–1993).
Audiences are invited to experience this bold reimagining on November 14, 15 and 16 at the Għargħur Theatre. Performances will be held on November 14 and 15 at 8pm, and on Sunday at 4pm.
