Ring in the new year with classical and festive music

As the new year begins, music lovers are invited to enjoy a series of uplifting concerts taking place across Gozo and Malta.

From festive choral celebrations and orchestral chamber performances to a traditional Epiphany concert, these events bring together accomplished musicians, young talent and special guests in a rich programme of classical and seasonal music.

A New Year’s Toast

The Gaulitanus Choir, its soloists, guests and an instrumental ensemble, under the musical and artistic direction of Colin Attard, is holding the 14th edition of its New Year’s Day concert at the Kempinski Hotel, San Lawrenz, on January 1 at 7.30pm.

The concert promises an engaging mix of classical masterpieces, contemporary selections and beloved choral favourites.

Entrance to the event, which is being supported by the Ministry for Gozo − Cultural Heritage Directorate and Playpen, is free on a first-come-first-served basis and no reservations are required.

MYO Chamber Concert

Various selections of the Malta Youth Orchestra are performing fresh interpretations of chamber works at the Robert Samut Hall, Floriana, on January 4 at 11am.

The concert highlights the depth, versatility and talent of the young musicians through a varied and colourful programme, that brings together classical favourites, ballet music and rhythmic energy.

Highlights include selections from Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, Op. 37a, and his Chinese Dance from The Nutcracker, William Boyce’s Symphony No. 4 in F major, Op. 2 and selections from Purcell’s King Arthur.

The musicians will comprise a strings and piano, woodwind and percussion ensembles.

Epiphany Concert

The JP2 Foundation is hosting the seventh edition of its Epiphany Concert at St Anthony of Padua church in Għajnsielem on January 4 at 7pm.

This year’s concert will feature the Father’s Angels Children’s Choir from the Sacro Cuor parish church in Sliema. The youth music group, led by Fr Joe Caruana, OFM, will perform hymns and festive music.

Special guest for the evening will be veteran singer Mary Spiteri.

The Ministry for Gozo − Cultural Heritage Directorate together with the Għajnsielem local council are supporting this event.

The public is invited to attend.
