Music lovers are invited to the next lunchtime concert in the long-running weekly series organised by the Barocco Foundation in collaboration with Din l-Art Ħelwa.
Today’s recital at the restored Our Lady of Victory church in Valletta will offer audiences a programme centred on voice and piano within an intimate historic setting.
The concert features emerging sopranos Lisa Baldacchino and Bettina Zammit alongside tenor Tom Armitage, with pianist Elaine Mercieca, who will present a varied selection from the vocal repertoire, combining opera, operetta and art song.
The programme opens with Pays merveilleux… Ô paradis from Meyerbeer’s L’Africaine, followed by Liszt’s reflective Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh. Operetta is represented by Lehàr’s Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiß from Giuditta, while Gurney’s Sleep offers a more intimate contrast.
Further highlights include Gluck’s Mais d’où vient qu’il persiste à garder le silence from Orphée et Eurydice and Gounod’s Je veux vivre from Roméo et Juliette. Ensemble moments feature Delibes’s Flower Duet from Lakmé and Mozart’s Soave sia il vento from Così fan tutte.
The programme also includes excerpts from Beethoven’s Fidelio, Barber’s Vanessa and Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi.
Voices in Harmony – A Lunchtime Recital will be held at Our Lady of Victory church, Valletta, today, February 17 at 12.30pm. Entrance is by a suggested donation of €13.
