A concert and evening celebrating the Maltese language through music is taking place on Saturday, February 21, at Storeroom in Ta’ Xbiex.

Timed for International Mother Language Day, the fourth edition of Ħoss il-Malti showcases Maltese in all musical forms, from contemporary hits to classic tracks.

Organised by the Language Office within the European Commission Representation in Malta, Ħoss il-Malti is built around a simple premise: all music performed is in Maltese.

The event challenges the perception that Maltese belongs only in certain spaces and demonstrates that the language can thrive in music, theatre, media and beyond.

The 2026 edition features Michael Azzopardi and his band Il-Klieb tal-Wolf, performing for the first time since the release of their 2025 album Tfal tax-Xemx. Known for their energetic live shows and inventive songwriting, the band exemplifies how Maltese can adapt to modern music while retaining its identity.

The Language Office within the European Commission Representation in Malta works to promote multilingualism and the Maltese language in public life. Since Malta joined the EU in 2004, Maltese has been an official EU language, with the right to use it in legislation, communication and EU institutions. The office organises cultural and educational events to highlight the language’s role in society, and Ħoss il-Malti is a key example of these efforts in action.

By linking music with language awareness, Ħoss il-Malti demonstrates that Maltese is not limited to traditional or formal settings. The event celebrates the language as a living, expressive medium, capable of reaching new audiences and inspiring creativity.

Doors open in the evening, and admission is free. Attendees can expect a night of live Maltese music, cultural pride and inclusive celebration, proving that the language resonates on stage as powerfully as it does in everyday life. Non-Maltese speakers are encouraged to attend.
