A new double single inspired by the wild, spiritual beauty of Malta and Gozo by Italian pianist and composer Isabella Turso, is now available on all digital and streaming platforms.

Titled Echoes in Blue/Spirit of Calypso (Bluebelldisc, distributed by AWAL), the two solo piano pieces mark the beginning of a broader artistic project: a musical voyage among the islands of the Mediterranean, uncovering their stories, wounds and beauty. It’s an invitation to listen deeply and immerse oneself in a sea that carries ancient memories and still speaks today − sometimes in whispers, sometimes in cries.

Echoes in Blue is inspired by the Azure Window of Gozo, the iconic limestone arch that collapsed in 2017. The piece reflects on the passage of time and its power to erode even nature’s marvels, leaving behind only memory.

Spirit of Calypso draws from the mythic aura of Calypso’s Cave, a place steeped in legend, symbolism and mystery. The music evokes a dream-like dimension, touched by wind and memory. It gathers the island’s voices − elders, children, waves − and weaves them into sound.

Turso, who currently resides in Malta, said: “Music opens invisible paths − through water, sky and stone. It’s as if the world listens and begins to dance.”

This release also marks a significant step forward in Turso’s career. From this month, her full catalogue and all future releases will be distributed worldwide by AWAL, a leading global independent music company and part of the Sony Music Entertainment group.

Andrea Natale, managing director of Bluebelldisc, said this is the sixth project they’ve produced with Turso since 2018.

“I’ve accompanied her creative journey through every chapter,” he said, adding that the latest album, Nocturne (January 2024), confirmed her artistic maturity and was followed by the Nightfall Piano Tour.

He also highlighted her recent contributions to The Never Ending Now, the spoken word album by American poet IN-Q, released in May 2024 and submitted for Grammy consideration.

The official music video for Echoes in Blue is also now available on YouTube. Directed by Raul Pessoa, the video visually interprets the emotional and symbolic core of the piece.

“The first time I heard Isabella’s music, something clicked. It had a dreamlike, emotional quality that made me want to explore where that inspiration comes from,” Pessoa said.

He imagined a world where a little girl dances freely, completely present and filled with wonder at the beauty around her.

“That sense of awe, that purity, was what I wanted to capture,” he added.

The official video is produced by Jungle Party Productions, Vibrante and Bluebelldisc Music, with costume design by Eleonora Lastrucci.
