Two local scale models clubs IPMS Malta (International Plastic Modellers Society – Malta) and MSMM (Malta Society of Model Makers), are holding an exhibition at the Malta Aviation Museum in Ta’ Qali this week. The theme is #Together for the Gladiator.
The aviation museum is currently working on an ambitious project, that of building a flying Gloster Sea Gladiator biplane, and proceeds from the event will go towards it.
Gloster Gladiators were the first aircraft to defend the Maltese islands in 1940 when Italy declared war and immediately started to mount air attacks against Malta. These planes were baptised by the local population and media as ‘Faith’, ‘Hope’ and ‘Charity’.
The exhibition also aims to highlight awareness about the hobby and to attract more visitors to the museum.
Also participating in this event are the American Muscle Car Club and the Battle Front re-enactment group.
There will also be a special World War II-themed virtual reality presentation by Martin Debattista, author of the book The Front Page on the Front Line, and other talks about the Gladiator project by David Polidano, who is overseeing the whole construction project.
The exhibition runs until tomorrow. For more information, visit the Malta Scale Modellers on Facebook page
