‘I’m not afraid to be vulnerable and share the ups and downs of motherhood’

Steph Rodgers shares her love of fashion, the Maltese language, and of being Baby G’s mum with almost 26,000 followers on TikTok. Her secret? Authenticity and transparency.

Describe your social media game: My social media game is focused on providing authentic and relatable content to my audience. I aim to showcase my daily life as a new mom, share my passion for fashion and makeup, and offer 60-second lessons on Maltese grammar and spelling.

Your followers tend to be: My followers tend to be primarily women aged between 18 and 35, who are interested in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle content. They appreciate my honest and down-to-earth approach, and value the connection we have through our shared experiences. Followers also love my teaching content and appreciate me helping them better their Maltese writing.

What made you take up such a career? I have two main platforms: TikTok and Instagram. I started building my TikTok account first, with the aim of giving people something fresh and new educational content. My audience seemed engaged and eager to learn, and people also loved my funny student/teacher videos as it brought nostalgia for some and relatability for others. On Instagram, I focused more on my passion for fashion and beauty. As my following grew, I realised that I could work with brands and create sponsored content that resonated with my audience. The key to my success has been staying true to myself and creating content that is genuine and relatable.

What do you believe is the role of an influencer? I believe the role of an influencer is to provide valuable content to their audiences, while also partnering with brands to promote products that align with their values and interests. It’s important for influencers to be transparent about sponsored content and maintain authenticity in their relationships with their followers.

Why do you believe your content is relatable? Because I share my real life experiences and struggles, while also providing inspiration and ideas that my audience can use in their own lives. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable and share the ups and downs of motherhood and life in general.

Who do you follow online, and why? I follow a variety of influencers and bloggers who inspire me and share content that aligns with my interests. Some of my favourites include @onechickandayorkie, @sosazerafa, @tamarawebb_, and @abigail.vick

TikTok – evil or amazing? Why? I think TikTok is amazing! It’s a fun and creative platform that allows me to connect with a younger audience and share short, engaging videos that are educational. I love it when my followers comment that they are learning a lot through my 60-second videos.

I want to up my social media game. What do I do? I would recommend focusing on creating content that is authentic and engaging. Use hashtags strategically to increase visibility, and engage with your followers by responding to comments and messages. Consistency is also key – make sure you’re posting regularly and on a schedule that works for you.

How often do you post? I post daily on both Instagram and TikTok, but I always prioritise quality over quantity. I want to make sure that each post I share is something that my audience will enjoy and find valuable.

Can spontaneity and influencer co-exist? Absolutely! Spontaneity is part of what makes social media fun and engaging. It’s important to strike a balance between planned content and spontaneous moments that showcase your personality and creativity.Any nasty stalker stories? Thankfully, I haven’t had any nasty stalker stories, but I do take precautions to protect my privacy and safety on social media. I’m careful about sharing personal information and location details.
