Malta’s 5 best golden hour views

Grab that chilled bottle of wine and set up a sunset picnic at one of these gorgeous spots.

Now the weather has decided to act normalish again, golden hour is once again a thing. We’re talking about that sweet spot when the sun turns the Maltese skies into a flaming orange.

Whether it’s with friends, family, or that special someone, sunsets have always been part of the Maltese culture. Nothing compares to watching the colours melt into the horizon over the sea.

I’m the first one out the door and into my car to watch the golden hour, so if you need inspiration, here are some of my favourite go-to spots.

1. Għajn Tuffieħa

A classic spot. Whether you prefer walking down to the beach or grabbing a spot near the tower, you cannot go wrong with Għajn Tuffieħa. Just make sure to get there early, especially now that it’s getting warmer.

2. Dingli Cliffs

The cliffs, the landscape, the sea. You’ve even got a beautiful view of Filfla. What more could you ask for? Grab your buddy and look out to the Mediterranean Sea for a unique sunset experience.

3. Wied iż-Żurrieq

Watch the sun go down over the caves of the Blue Grotto and take in the beauty of the different colours as they set over this lavish site. Why not get there early and take a boat ride for the full experience?

4. The Bastion Pool

Grab a spot in the middle of the Valletta fortifications and enjoy the view of the sun setting over Marsamxett Harbour. This tranquil area is perfect if you’re looking for some peace and quiet after a hard day at work.

5. Fomm Ir-Riħ

Located in Mgarr, Fomm ir-Riħ needs a little more effort to get to. It’s totally worth it, I promise. White cliffs, pebbled beaches, and unspoilt natural beauty – a magnificent spot to watch the golden hour with a bottle of something and a few snacks.
