4 Maltese wineries to explore this summer

Time to shake things up a bit with some alternative vintages.

There’s nothing more satisfying than a nice glass of wine with a nice meal on a warm summer day. Thing is, we’re creatures of habit, and that can sometimes be boring. Why not shake things up a bit by seeing what these less commercial Maltese wineries have to offer?

1. Meridiana Wine Estate, Ta’ Qali

Meridiana Wine Estate has been around since 1985 and although it may be considered to be a young winery, its wines are sold out before their releases. The winery produces around 140,000 bottles of white, rose, and reds annually. Take the tour and experience the entire package of views, fine wine, and a cheese platter.

2. Diar il-Bniet, Ħad-Dingli

This off-the-beaten-track estate is known for its farm-to-table approach. Their biggest asset is their farmland, which is why the food is always incredibly fresh. Diar il-Bniet is also famous for its perfect wine pairing. They are excellent at selecting the right taste to accompany the vibrant flavours of your meal.

3. Ta’ Mena Estate, Xagħra, Gozo

Ta’ Mena Estate is a family-run enterprise that brings agriculture and tourism together. The Spiteri family incorporate Gozo’s uniqueness into the picture with what they call the ‘Gozitan Green Touch’. Make a day out of your visit to Ta’ Mena and enjoy learning about the traditional processing of crops, trees, and food along with a glass of their signature wines.

4. Tal-Massar Winery, L-Għarb, Gozo

Located near the Gozitan coast, Tal-Massar Winery is an award-winning enterprise that offers personalised winetasting experiences. The family is known for sharing their love for wine and its creation with visitors while giving them the opportunity to taste their productions alongside a well-paired snack.
