The Friends of the Manoel are holding their first event of the season, a public lecture titled Princess Poutiatine: Fragments of the Past, which will be delivered by Kathrina Farrugia-Kriel on October 22 at 5PM at the Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo De La Salle, Valletta.

Farrugia-Kriel will delve into Natalie Poutiatine’s early life in Russia and her teenage years in Malta and Paris, her connection to the legacy of the celebrated dancers Pavlova and Egorova and their influence upon her repertoire, as well as Princess Poutiatine’s recorded rehearsal of The Longing, which sees a young Maltese dancer perform Poutiatine’s repertoire, the last of which was last seen on Teatru Manoel’s stage in 1978.

Admittance is free of charge, although a suggested donation of E5 is encouraged. Copies of Farrugia-Kriel’s publication, Princess Poutiatine and the Art of Ballet in Malta, shall be available for purchase.
