Actress Reese Witherspoon is known for many things, but her breakout role is most certainly that of Elle Woods, a pink-loving graduate from Harvard Law who goes on to win famous cases in the 2001 film, Legally Blonde, and its 2003 sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde.
It’s no surprise, therefore, that when Witherspoon took to social media dressed in a hot pink suit and pale pink stilettos to announce a Legally Blonde prequel to the world, many of our millennial hearts burst with joy.
The prequel, which will be called Elle and is set to premiere in 2025 on Amazon Prime, will focus on Elle’s younger days, potentially leading up to the events that spurred her to head to Harvard Law School in the first place.
As Reese wrote on Instagram: ‘Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, [Elle] was just a regular ‘90s high school girl.’
All we know about the production so far is that it’s being spearheaded by Witherspoon’s own production company, Hello Sunshine, which has been behind hits like the Big Little Lies TV series and movie-adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing.
While there has been no mention of who will play the young Elle, many users on social media have started petitioning Amazon Prime bosses to consider Espresso-hitmaker, singer Sabrina Carpenter for the role. And, with the resemblance being uncanny and Carpenter’s star being on the rise, it wouldn’t surprise us if this actually happened!
