Netflix has recently taken to X, formerly known as Twitter, to announce that Peaky Blinders and Thomas Shelby would be returning for a feature film. Starring Cillian Murphy in the lead role, the movie has no title and no release date yet, though 2025 seems to be the most likely date.

Peaky Blinders is a period crime drama set in post-World War I-Birmingham. It is loosely based on the real-life youth gang that terrorised the city between the 1880s and the 1910s.

Originally airing on BBC Two, before moving to BBC One for its fifth and sixth seasons, the show was then released in America and across the world by Netflix. To many fans’ dismay, however, the show came to an end in 2022. But not all is lost!

The streaming giant has now announced that a movie is in the works, with the screenplay for it having already been written by its creator, Steven Knight. It also said that Tom Harper, who directed a number of episodes in the first season, would be returning in the same role.

The movie, which is yet untitled, will star Cillian Murphy in the lead role. The 48-year-old, Irish actor will also produce the film, with filming set to start in September of this year.

Very little else is known at the moment, but it has certainly got fans excited to see what will happen to the gang in this new part of the critically-acclaimed story!
