Fridgescaping is now a thing

Flowers, vases, statues, candles, and picture frames: people are now decorating the insides of their fridges in the most unexpected of ways.

Of all the trends we expected to see in 2024, one that involves turning the inside of a fridge into a cabinet of curiosities was not on our list. And yet, it’s happening, with the “fridgescaping” trend taking over TikTok and international news.

The trend in itself is pretty easy to comprehend. People are basically beautifying the interiors of their refrigerators, making them more akin to a Victorian drawing room than simply a place where one stores perishable goods. But, for us, it’s what goes into these fridges that is completely baffling and utterly amusing.

Videos of fridgescapers show everything from fresh tulips in porcelain vases, to marble statues, and crochet scenes in wooden picture frames all sitting side-by-side with fruit, vegetable, and dairy products. They’re quite a sight to behold.

One of the most famous examples even has a Bridgerton theme, with sweets in ceramic boxes, LED candles, and edible flowers in vases shaped like books. Its creator, Lindsay Judish, has—rather wittingly, we must say—called her fridge theme, “Fridgerton”.

For those looking to take on the trend, there are three things that are required: plenty of time (Judish spends three hours every fortnight fridgescaping), some creativity, and lots of beautiful objects to adorn the space.

If you do try it out, be sure to send us your photos!
