Millennials and Gen Z’ers are sure to welcome some amazing news from the world of Hollywood this week, as actress Anne Hathaway has confirmed that Disney is already producing the third installment in The Princess Diaries movie series.
Taking to Instagram, the 41-year-old American actress shared various clips from the original The Princess Diaries movies, as well as its sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement, along with the caption ‘Miracles happen’.
So far, little is known about the release date or, indeed, who will be starring in the film—other than Hathaway reprising her role as Princoss of Genovia, Mia Thermopolis. Yet stars have already started showing their interest, with Mandy Moore, who played the role of ‘mean girl’ Lana Thomas, stating that she wouldn’t mind heading back to the faux European kingdom.
Julie Andrews, meanwhile, who played the role of Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the first two films, has said that it’s been too long for her to go back to the role. But seeing as the films’ original producer, Debra Martin Chase, is returning for the third installment, that may just change her mind.
The film’s direction will be in the hands of Adele Lim, who is known for her work on Crazy Rich Asians, Joy Ride, and Raya and the Last Dragon. Speaking about this new project, she said that the third installment will continue “celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
Needless to say, we are beyond excited to see what the latest developments in Genova are, and to catch up with one of our favourite Disney princesses, Mia!
