The theme for the 2025 Met Gala has been announced

And it’s an ode to the Black dandies and their on-point tailoring.

The Black dandy has been named as the inspiration for the 2025 Met Gala, which next year will be taking place on Monday, May 5. The coinciding exhibition, titled Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, will then be open to the public between May 10 and October 26.

The Met Gala is one of fashion’s most important nights, when celebrities from the worlds of music, acting, fashion, business, and pop culture come together in celebration of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition.

According to Vogue, which works directly with the Met on the event, 2025’s serving will look at the “importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”

As the first to focus exclusively on men’s fashion since the 2003 Men in Skirts exhibition, Superfine has indeed been inspired by the 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity by Monica Miller, in which the author explores how fashion became political.

Chairing the committee for the 2025 exhibition and Gala are singer and Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director Pharrell Williams, Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, actor Calman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky, and Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Of course, all eyes will also be on the celebrities who will descend on the Met for the Gala, with many going above and beyond to serve some seriously impressive and provocative looks. In fact, we can’t see the looks and the ensuing memes!
