Fans of the iconically hilarious Scary Movie franchise are reeling from the news that Marlon, Shawn, and Keenan Wayans, the original creators of the series, have been confirmed for the upcoming Scary Movie 6.
The first Scary Movie, released in 2000, pioneered the genre of the horror-comedy, with the film parodying numerous blockbusters and cult classics, including Scream, The Blair Witch Project, The Shining, and Halloween.
Such was its success that the film spawned four sequels, with the latest one, Scary Movie 5, hitting cinemas in 2013. The franchise as a whole has also made over $830 million worldwide, which is not shabby at all.
The sixth movie in the franchise was announced back in April at the CinemaCon, an international motion picture exhibition that brings various aspects of the film-making industry together. While that news certainly made headlines, it was a social media post by Marlon Wayans that made fans truly excited for the project. Marlon, alongside his brothers Shawn and Keenan Wayans, was involved in the first two Scary Movie films, as well as in the 2004 classic, White Chicks.
Fans are now also petitioning to bring Anna Faris and Regina Hall—who played Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks, respectively—back to the franchise. Moreover, many have taken to social media to try and guess which films will be parodied this time, with Hereditary, IT, and The VVitch being among the favourites.
While there is no news about when the movie will arrive in theatres, most sources are pointing towards the end of 2025 as a potential date. Meanwhile, while no director has been announced, the film is scheduled to film in the early months of next year.
