We love shopping local, but sometimes we just come across stuff on the internet that is absolutely impossible to look away from. This has certainly happened on Ikea’s website, where three decorations in particular completely transported us to the Christmases of yesteryear.
STRÅLA: The STRÅLA lamp shade totally looks like something out of the 80s and 90s, when paper decorations could be seen adorning many windows across Malta; often placed above a Baby Jesus or even a crib. The one from Ikea is a star lampshade that’s 70 cm long and made out of linen, so will last for many Christmases to come. What’s best is that they have attachments to turn it into a desk lamp or to hang it!
VINTERFINT: The VINTERFINT set of three glass, animal baubles totally harks back to the Christmas decorations of old, and to the many times our parents warned us not to drop the very fragile heirlooms we were putting on the tree. This limited edition set of three includes a glass squirrel, a glass rabbit, and a glass robbin, and their design is totally vintage.
SOLVINDEN: The SOLVINDEN LED lighting chain comes with 12 solar-powered lights and paper globe lanterns, making them both energy-efficient and incredibly retro. These are obviously meant to go outdoors, and laying your eyes on them will certainly take you back to your school days, when we were taught how to make lanterns out of A4 pieces of paper; or to the ironmongers of the past, many of which sold similar decorations.
Of course, we know there is no Ikea in Malta, but there are companies that deliver to Malta. Since this isn’t in any way sponsored, we won’t mention them, but we’re sure at least one of your friends can help you out!
