Derry Girls (2018 – 2022)
This clever comedy set in 1990s Northern Ireland follows a group of teens navigating school, family drama and the occasional bomb scare. Erin and her mates are brilliantly written, and you’ll find yourself giggling at their misadventures before you can say “cream horn.” It’s a wee gem, and at just around half an hour per episode, you can easily squeeze it in between tea breaks.

The IT Crowd (2006 – 2010)
If you’ve ever worked in an office, or simply tried to fix a stubborn computer, this British sitcom hits the sweet spot. You’ll follow socially awkward techies Roy, Moss and their less-than-tech-savvy manager Jen in the basement of a corporate building. Expect comical tech woes, ridiculous work dramas and the catchphrase “Have you tried turning it off and on again?”

Parks and Recreation (2009 – 2015)
This beloved mockumentary-style show introduces us to Leslie Knope, a perky government employee with a heart of gold (and a penchant for waffles). The entire Pawnee Parks Department is equally hilarious, and it’s easy to fall in love with them. Each episode runs just shy of 30 minutes, making it great for a burst of upbeat comedy.

Fleabag (2016 – 2019)
Writer and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge delivers a whip-smart, bittersweet comedy that’s as funny as it is poignant. Follow Fleabag, a dry-witted Londoner, as she deals with family strife, romantic blunders and the occasional witty aside to the camera. The episodes are a neat 30 minutes, but you’ll probably find yourself gobbling the entire series in a weekend.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013 – 2021)
Set in the 99th precinct of the NYPD, this ensemble comedy features a riotous group of detectives solving crimes and cracking jokes. If you fancy a good “title of your sex tape” quip or need a dose of the world’s most determined boss, Captain Holt, this show delivers. It’s the perfect light-hearted watch that always wraps up in half an hour.

Peep Show (2003 – 2015)
A British cult classic, Peep Show uses a unique point-of-view filming style to get you inside the minds of Mark and Jez. These dysfunctional flatmates stumble through awkward social situations, strained relationships and everyday existential crises. Despite their questionable decisions, you might relate to them more than you’d like to admit.

Community (2009 – 2015)
Step into Greendale Community College, where study groups never quite stay on topic and surreal escapades are the norm. The show finds comedy gold in everything from paintball tournaments to blanket forts. Each episode is short, sweet and delightfully offbeat.
