For the first time ever, children and their furry friends can take part together in an event merging science, technology and education at the Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Kalkara on April 26 and 27.
The Paws and Claws Easter Adventure, organised by Esplora on behalf of Xjenza Malta, will offer a unique experience for families.
The event will not only include interactive experiences such as science shows, but with over 20 collaborators in the local animal sector, visitors will have the opportunity to meet unusual animals, such as reptiles and snakes, among others.
“Events like this help nurture curiosity in the minds of visitors and also emphasise the importance of animals, biodiversity and sustainability. We are fully committed to supporting Esplora in its mission to educate and inspire,” Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, said.
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Research and Innovation, Keith Azzopardi Tanti, added: “Esplora continues to be innovative with educational and engaging events that foster curiosity, creativity, and empathy. We therefore look forward to seeing the community come together for this beautiful experience, which is true testimony to how STEM education can be both enjoyable and impactful.”
The event will also feature an ‘Adoption Corner’ where families can meet animals in need of a new home. The aim of this corner is to raise awareness about responsible pet ownership and to foster empathy among children.
“Events like this help nurture curiosity in the minds of visitors and also emphasise the importance of animals, biodiversity and sustainability”
Other event highlights include a hands-on activity titled Little Vet Clinic (5+), where children will step into the vet’s role, using their creativity and imagination to care for sick pet patients; a storytelling session (3 to 6) about a young puppy searching for a home; and pet-themed sensory play for toddlers (0 to 2).
There is also a photography competition where children are invited to take a photo with their pets in funny sleeping poses or stuck in the weirdest places.
James Catania, director of Esplora, explained how this event will create an immersive experience that blends science with learning and the joy of animals.
“This event not only brings families together for fun, but also gives them the opportunity for children to learn through interactive experiences with animals, meet veterinarians, and receive information about animal care.”
The Paws and Claws Easter Adventure will take place at the Esplora Interactive Science Centre in Kalkara on April 26 and 27 from 10am to 5pm.
