Discover Chinese painting and calligraphy this summer

10 sessions to kick off on August 5
Traditional Chinese painting blends visual beauty with meditative practice.

Applications are now open for the China Cultural Centre in Malta summer course in traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, beginning on August 5.

The course will be held at the centre’s premises at 173, Melita Street, Valletta, and will offer 10 one-and-a-half-hour sessions every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday morning.

Traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy are deeply rooted in the country’s history and philosophy, blending visual beauty with meditative practice.

Using brush, ink and rice paper, artists express not only form but also emotion and spirit, creating works that are both poetic and disciplined. These art forms have been cherished for centuries as a means of personal cultivation and cultural expression.

Participants will explore the techniques, traditions and expressive qualities that define Chinese brush painting and calligraphy.

Led by Sun Hui, a talented Chinese artist based in Malta, the course invites participants to discover this artistic heritage in a calm and inspiring atmosphere. Sun brings years of teaching experience and has earned recognition for his exhibitions and cultural work throughout Malta.

Open to anyone aged eight and above, the course is suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience.

With a strong emphasis on hands-on practice, participants will explore the techniques, traditions and expressive qualities that define Chinese brush painting and calligraphy.

Spaces are limited, and early registration is recommended to secure a place. For more information or to apply, contact the China Cultural Centre in Malta on ccc2023education@gmail.com.
