An innovative new TV series that combines sports competition with high-energy family entertainment is being filmed in Malta, with principal photography starting in October.

Produced by Camelot Media, Battle of the Beasts will be hosted by world-renowned strongman and social media star Eddie Hall alongside an array of celebrity co-hosts. Eddie ‘The Beast’ Hall rose to fame after winning ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ title in 2017 and making history as the first human to deadlift 500kg.

Battle of the Beasts will bring together 10 contestants from around the world, which include current ‘World’s Strongest Man’ Rayno Nel and three-time ‘World’s Strongest Man’ Tom Stoltman, alongside Mitchell Hooper, Gavin Bilton, Evan Singleton, Terry Hollands, Paddy Haynes, Mark Felix and Trey Mitchell.

The contestants will compete in a series of challenges that are specifically designed to push the boundaries of strength, endurance, resilience, agility, pain, appetite and combat, including sumo wrestling, belly flop challenges and an eating competition, all to crown the first-ever champion of the Battle of the Beasts.

The show will be filmed in front of an audience and edited into a reality sports format set for release next summer. With all territories currently open for distribution, the project is anticipated to attract significant interest from broadcasters, sponsors and streaming platforms across the globe.

Director Roel Reiné (Halo, Death Race) will helm the show, with Visit Malta and online sports betting and crypto casino Duelbits supporting the event as the main sponsors. Executive producers include Jasper Hoekert and Christopher Curran from Duelbits, and Derik Fay, Flex Lewis and Adrian Goodisman.

Reiné said: “We are creating an epic, cinematic sporting entertainment experience. The character profile of each contestant, combined with the intensity of the challenges and the surprises we have planned, will allow us to capture something truly unforgettable and unique and new, that the entertainment industry has never seen before.”

Battle of the Beasts will be a never-before-seen spectacle not just on the island of Malta but around the world”

The show is produced by Matt Hookings of Camelot Films. This is Camelot’s fifth project in Malta since 2019. The self-funded production company most notably brought Russell Crowe back to Malta for the first time since Gladiator in 1999 for their film Prizefighter in 2022.

Hookings said: “Battle of the Beasts will be a never-before-seen spectacle not just on the island of Malta but around the world. Eddie’s international appeal, combined with the extraordinary challenges our contestants will face, will create a show that captures the interest of everyone. Battle of the Beasts is the beginning of a new global sports entertainment phenomenon, deeply rooted in the heart of Malta, which happens to be home for me”.

Tickets for the shows are now available via Camelot’s website and showshappening.com. Further announcements of celebrity guests will be announced through Camelot’s social media account on Instagram.
