Do you have any clothing at home that you haven’t worn in a while because it has a hole in it or got ripped? Has your bike stopped working or do you have small electronic devices that need repairing?

During the European Week for Waste Reduction, Friends of the Earth Malta, together with support from the Msida local council and Kopin Malta, are organising a Repair Café to counteract the frenzy of Black Friday deals and celebrate fixing, sharing and reimagining what is already in one’s possession.
“Friends of the Earth Malta is calling attention to the idea of repair because every item we purchase has embodied resources and energy that go to waste when it is sent to a landfill, and potentially release greenhouse gases and toxins as they decompose,” Beth Fiteni, zero waste campaigner at Friends of the Earth Malta said.
“Meanwhile, 565 kilograms of waste were created in Malta per person in 2023 and our taxes pay for disposal. Young people especially get the need to reuse items, as a means to protect the environment and also to save money instead of having to buy new things,” she added.
One can join the event either as a participant or as a volunteer. It is being held at the NGO’s Green Resource Centre in Floriana on November 29 from 11am to 3pm.
Registrations are open here − let them know what needs fixing. While anyone wishing to share their passion for fixing things such as clothes, shoes, bags and more is invited to fill in this form.

Fostering resilient, sustainable, creative communities
The event forms part of the ‘Root, Repair, Reconnect’ initiative endorsed by the NGO. It is presented under the SUBLIME programme (SDGs Unite Border Communities as Leaders of Inclusiveness, Mobilisation and Empowerment).
The project supports EU residents to better understand the UN 2030 Agenda and to engage with the challenges and opportunities that come with the climate transition, gender equality and social inclusion.
With ‘Root, Repair, Reconnect’, Friends of the Earth Malta wants to help create more resilient, sustainable and inclusive communities, led by young people and grounded in environmental and social justice.
The SUBLIME project is implemented in Malta by the Msida local council and Kopin Malta.
