Schola Cantorum Jubilate (SCJ) is this week presenting a special edition of Carols by Candlelight as a grand finale to the choir’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

As in previous editions, the event will begin with a concert at St Augustine’s church in Victoria. Guests are to expect enchanting carols, evocative literature and beautiful lighting effects.

The repertoire will include classical and lesser-known Christmas carols, featuring works by Tallis, Adam, Gruber, Berlioz, Labaky and Rutter, and arrangements by Willcocks and the choir’s resident composer Paul Portelli, along with some surprises. The concert will be under the direction of Marouska Attard.

Afterwards, guests will enjoy a banquet-style dinner prepared by Ogygia Caterers by Vini e Capricci at the friary’s historic cloister. Chef Luke promises a culinary experience rich in festive flavours and crafted with care to complement the evening’s ambience.

Entrance is by ticket only, available from showshappening.com. Patrons are requested to contact the organisers to reserve their dinner seats and to inform them in case of food intolerances. For reservations and enquiries, WhatsApp +356 7945 0950.

Carols by Candlelight has long been a highlight of the Christmas season for music and Christmas enthusiasts. The event has earned international recognition when in 2010, The Guardian listed it among the top 10 Christmas events in Europe.
