Conversations on musical instruments

The Dusk Dialogues series returns to Palazzo Falson on Tuesday with a discussion on instrument-making and playing
Fiorella Camilleri and Francesco Sultana

This year’s first talk in the Dusk Dialogues series at Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum in Mdina will discuss musical instruments with guests Francesco Sultana and Fiorella Camilleri, who will share their experiences in the world of music-making and instrument craftsmanship. The talk is being held on Tuesday, March 24, at 6.30pm.

Sultana is a musician, researcher and craftsman dedicated to preserving Malta’s traditional musical heritage. Through the study of historical records, artworks and surviving instruments, he recreates traditional sounds and builds instruments such as the żaqq, the Maltese bagpipe.

Camilleri is a lead flautist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, whose work as a performer is complemented by her interest in international relations and the role of music in cross-cultural dialogue.

The talk aims to spark dialogue about the art of musical instruments, from the craft of building them to the skill of playing them, and from traditional music to the ways music can create cultural connections.

Doors open at 6pm. For bookings, e-mail bookings@palazzofalson.com. Ticket price is €5 and is non-refundable. Members of Palazzo Falson attend for free (booking is still required). More information is available here.

This event is being held in collaboration with Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti and with the support of Marsovin.
