The Siġġiewi local council is today hosting Festa Għeneb fis-Siġġiewi 2025, a cultural event celebrating the local grape harvest and the village’s long-standing tradition of viticulture.
The main attraction will be an exhibition showcasing various grape varieties from the fertile fields of the locality, along with an agricultural machinery display. There will also be a homemade wine competition, as well as wine-tasting sessions paired with traditional Maltese food.
A distinctive experience will be ‘Fil-Kċina mas-Sindku’ where the mayor of Siġġiewi, together with children from the Local Children’s Council and several other guests, will share a live cooking demonstration using local and seasonal ingredients. This part of the event is financed through European funds obtained through Fondazzjoni Gal Majjistral.
A historical and spiritual element will be presented in a special church exhibition titled Frott il-Fidi, featuring rare 17th-century religious vestments related to the Order of the Knights of Malta, who played a crucial role in the development of viticulture in Siġġiewi.
The public will have the opportunity to taste and experience artisanal products from various European regions, including Sicily and Spain. There will also be a parade in baroque costume and a salt design exhibition presented by the well-known Infiorata di Noto organisation.
The square will also feature traditional food stalls, a crafts market and a dedicated children’s area with games and age-appropriate activities.
Two entertainment zones will offer performances throughout the evening – one featuring various musical genres, and the other focusing on Maltese music, including traditional għana.
The event is also being held through financial aid from the parliamentary secretary for local government and Malta Tourism Authority (VisitMalta).
Activities start at 6pm. The event is free but donations will be collected in aid of Id-Dar tal-Providenza. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page.
