Not looking forward to the next 3 months?

Summer is just around the corner and we all know what that means – airconditioner, airconditioner, and more airconditioner. This doesn’t only rack up your ARMS bill, it is also bad for the environment.

Here are a few tips to turn your home into an oasis without blasting the AC.

1 – Open all the windows

Might seem obvious, but opening one window isn’t enough. You’ll create a cool draft when opening windows on either side of the house. Adding a fan in the right place will help circulate the cool breeze.

2 – Control the humidity

Let’s face it, the humidity is the worst part of the Maltese summer. Investing in a dehumidifier won’t bring the temperature down, but it will help reduce the humidity in the house, thus creating a cooling effect around the house.

3 – Ban the oven

I know you love the oven, and so do I, but it creates unnecessary heat in the summer, as do other kitchen appliances. If you really need it, I’d suggest using it at night when the sun’s down and the temperatures drop.

4 – Turn your fan into an AC

Yes, you read that correctly. While this may seem impossible, all you need to do is put a bowl of ice in front of the fan. The ice cools the wind generated by the propellers, creating a cool air conditioning effect.

5 – Drink water

This may be the most important of them all. Water helps regulate our body temperature, but only if it’s of room temperature itself. Keep a bottle close by as you work or go through your daily chores.
