New Lord of the Rings coming up

the two-part revival of the ultra-successful franchise will kick off with Lord of the Rings: The Hunt of Gollum in 2026.

If you’re a Ringer, then we have news for you: Warner Bros has announced not one, but two new films set in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings universe. The first film, which has the working title of Lord of the Rings: The Hunt of Gollum is expected to make it to the big screen sometime in 2026.

But the great news doesn’t stop there. Peter Jackson, who directed, wrote, and produced both the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy, is returning as a producer, alongside Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, who were also writers on both trilogies.

Meanwhile, actor Andy Serkis, who famously played the part of Gollum in both trilogies, will return to the role. He’ll also be putting on his director’s hat at least for the first of the two planned films.

At the time of writing, not much else is known about the plot of the films or what they will be covering. Even so, the title makes it clear then we can expect Gollum and, possibly, the One Ring, to take centre stage.
