They say that there are plenty of fish in the sea yet, for most of us, the dating pool may feel a bit restricted, especially in a country as small as Malta… But what if we told you that a dating trend that has been taking over the internet since 2023 could solve that problem?
Wanderlove is a trend through which singletons expand their search for a significant other by looking beyond their town, city, or country, which can be done by changing the settings on dating apps like Tinder, Hinge, and Grindr.
The idea here is that, by looking beyond one’s geographical borders, the person can meet people who have different life experiences; something that in itself may make the dating process that much more exciting. Of course, this means that the start of the relationship would be completely online, and involve chatting and video dating.
Yet, as the name implies, this trend is also about wandering together. So, in the long run, the two parties are also encouraged to meet in real life, either by one of them visiting the other or else by going on holiday together.
While this may seem extreme to some—it’s definitely not a dating style for everyone—it has proven successful for some people who have shared their stories online. Having said that, there are also downsides to the trend, including the fact that issues may arise in the long run if neither party is willing to move to the other’s hometown.
