89.7 Bay is taking a stand for artistic integrity and audience choice by exclusively airing the original version of Miriana Conte’s Eurovision song, Serving Kant.

Following widespread controversy surrounding the song’s title change, 89.7 Bay engaged its audience through a social media poll, asking listeners which version they preferred.

The response was overwhelming, with nearly 90% of participants voting in favour of the original version. As a result, 89.7 Bay is playing the version that the people want to hear.

Jake Cuschieri, 89.7 Bay radio host, said: “As a proud Maltese, I was frustrated by the decision to force a name change on Malta’s entry. It didn’t sit right with me, and I knew the Maltese community felt the same. That’s why we turned to our audience to decide, and the results were clear. Everyone embraces and loves the original song. We’re incredibly proud of Miriana and thrilled to keep playing the version people want to hear.”

The controversy arose after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) requested changes to the song’s title, citing concerns about its phonetic resemblance to an English-language expletive. This decision sparked widespread debate, with many arguing that it was an unnecessary restriction on the Maltese language.

As a long-time supporter of Maltese artists, 89.7 Bay remains committed to giving local music the platform it deserves, the radio station said. By playing Serving Kant in its original form, the station reinforces its dedication to both artistic expression and listener preferences.
