The importance of sleep was the focus of Times of Malta’s ‘Breakfast in Bed’ event, organised by Pink in collaboration with Hästens for a deeper understanding of the life-changing benefits of one of the core pillars of lifestyle science.
Held at The Phoenicia Malta, it brought together a panel of leading experts from the fields of cardiology, psychiatry, oncology and preventive medicine to show guests the far-reaching – and often overlooked – effects of a good sleep routine on mental, heart and gut health.
Moderated by psychiatrist and master Hästens trainer Bogdan Matei, the panel discussion left the audience enlightened and inspired by the power of quality sleep.
Following a short meditation session, consultant cardiologist Alex Borg and oncology researcher, health innovator and lifestyle medicine specialist Godfrey Grech shared insights on sleep’s essential role in health, longevity and performance, underscoring its primary function to repair and regenerate the brain, immune system, gut and every cell of the body.
They shared the stage with world-class, work-of-art, Swedish, handcrafted Hästens beds, represented by Form in Malta.

Created from the finest natural materials, sustainably produced and ethically sourced, by six generations of master craftsmen, Hästens beds are the epitome of luxury, costing up to €750,000 and owned by celebrities worldwide.
But the talk highlighted that sleep was far from an indulgence. It is not a luxury, but a lifeline, and the bottom line is that investing in quality sleep is an investment in oneself and one’s well-being.

“I have seen it time and again – when people start sleeping well, everything shifts. They think more clearly, handle stress with more ease and reconnect with themselves and others,” Matei said.
Among the takeaway points from the event was the idea that sleep is not just rest; it is the foundation of emotional stability, creativity and resilience.

“When you sleep well, your body heals, your heart strengthens, and your mind sharpens – your entire life improves.”
When you cut your sleep short, your heart pays the price, said Borg, explaining that nighttime is when the cardiovascular system repairs, stabilises blood pressure and resets, and stressing that good sleep protects the heart as much as exercise does.

Essential biological maintenance, sleep also regulates inflammation, which in turn underpins many modern diseases, from cardiovascular to cancer, Grech explained.
Following the event, he said it was an “exciting time to see sleep science becoming a central part of preventive health conversations.
“Let us continue pushing for sleep literacy in both clinical practice and public health policy.”

The talk ended with an informative and entertaining testing session of what have been dubbed the world’s best beds.
Guests continued the conversation over breakfast, networking and enjoying healthy beverages and other luxury and sleep-related products, leaving with Pink’s trademark goody bag, packed with treats, including a surprise VIP gift for a first taste of the deluxe Hästens world.
The event was also supported by other luxurious and lifestyle brands, including Porsche, Citadel Insurance, Holland & Barrett, Brown’s, Franks89, Korres from AM Mangion, with its lavender-based skin and body care, M&Z Marketing, with their Bundaberg Ginger Beer, Perrier and Quintano Foods, offering Activia among other nourishing products.
